Llyrio Boateng is a writer, director, actor, model and former commercial dancer. He trained at the Young Vic theatre, taking part in its Directors’ Springboard and Fresh Direction programmes.
As a writer, His play A False Friend was longlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play of the Year (2025); Llyrio’s essay ‘Dwelling’ was published in Black British Book Festival’s anthology (a celebration of culture, truth, memory, and imagination,) he’s been longlisted by The London Library, selected for the BFI NETWORK Writers Lab, BAFTA Connect, Theatre Peckham and his novella 5HTP is stocked by Waterstones. His untitled script placed in the top 10% of BBC Writersroom submissions and was Highly Commended by the National Theatre’s New Work panel.
He has directed new writing at Theatre503, Southwark Playhouse, Riverside Studios, and the radio drama My Mother Must’ve Heard It, Too. He recently served as Assistant Director to Robert Awosusi on POSITIVE at Southwark Playhouse; recently selected to observe rehearsals of both ‘Brigadoon’ and ‘Noughts & Crosses’ at The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Llyrio began his career as a dancer, performing internationally with artists including Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Rihanna and Ariana Grande, across music videos, stage, television and award shows. In 2024, he appeared alongside Elizabeth Hurley in the thriller Strictly Confidential.
