Llyrio Boateng is a British-Ghanaian writer, director and producer. He began his career as a dancer, performing internationally with Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry across music videos, world tours and award shows—
including the MTV VMAs and the Brit Awards. That grounding in movement and live performance informs everything he makes.
As a writer, his work has been Highly Commended by the National Theatre's New Work Panel and placed in the top 10% of BBC Writersroom submissions. His play A False Friend was longlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play (2025). He has been selected for the BFI NETWORK Writers Lab, contributed to the Black British Book Festival anthology, and been longlisted for the London Library Emerging Writers Programme.
He has directed new writing at Theatre503, Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios, and served as Assistant Director to Robert Awosusi at Southwark Playhouse. He trained with the Young Vic's Fresh Direction and Springboard programmes, held observerships on Brigadoon and Noughts & Crosses at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, and was selected for the 2021 BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew cohort, now known as BAFTA Connect.
He speaks English, Twi (Akan) and Spanish.
Llyrio is the founder of Por Ultimo, a London-based production company developing work for stage, screen and audio.
